The Mongolian sumo team won a gold medal for the first time at the sixth Hakuho Cup international junior sumo wrestling tournament, named after Mongolian Yokozuna (Grand Champion) of Japanese professional sumo Hakuho M.Davaajargal, was held last weekend in Tokyo, Japan.
Mongolian junior sumo wrestler A.Sosorkhuu from Bayankhongor Province won a gold medal and E.Javkhlantugs won a bronze medal in the 10-year-old category.
Over 1,200 junior sumo wrestlers from five countries, namely the USA, China, Japan, Mongolia and South Korea, competed in the tournament.
In addition, Hakuho’s eight-year-old son D.Munkhjargal competed in the tournament but did not qualify for a medal. His parents were comforting him after his loss.
Hakuho M.Davaajargal visited to see Mongolian junior wrestlers’ training during the tournament and gave advice on techniques.
